Cameron Green has finally cleared up the confusion around his IPL 2026 auction registration after surprising everyone by being listed as a “batter” instead of an “all-rounder”. He confirmed that it was simply a mistake by his manager and that he will be fully available to bowl.

The “stuff-up” that shocked IPL fans

When the final IPL 2026 auction list came out, Cameron Green was registered as a “batter” with a base price of ₹2 crore, which caught everyone by surprise. Green is one of the world’s best all-rounders, known for his ability to contribute with both bat and ball. Being listed only as a batter raised questions about whether he had a fitness issue with his bowling or if it was a strategic move.

Speaking before Australia’s training session in Adelaide on Sunday, Green cleared the air. He said his manager accidentally selected the wrong box during registration. “I’ll be good to bowl. I don’t know if my manager would like to hear this, but there was a stuff-up on his end. He didn’t mean to say ‘batter’. I think he accidentally selected the wrong box. It was pretty funny how it’s all played out, but it was actually a stuff-up on his end,” Green told ESPNcricinfo.

So, the bottom line is simple: Cameron Green is fully fit and will be available as an all-rounder in IPL 2026, despite what the auction paperwork says.

Why this mistake might not hurt him

Some experts had actually suggested that being listed as a batter could help Green’s auction price go even higher. In the IPL auction, batters are presented before all-rounders, which means Green will be among the first six players to go under the hammer on December 16. This early slot gives him maximum attention and could trigger a bigger bidding war among franchises.

Green is already widely tipped to become the most expensive player at the IPL 2026 auction, with predictions that he could surpass Rishabh Pant’s ₹27 crore record from last year. Kolkata Knight Riders, who have the largest remaining budget, are the frontrunners to secure him. Other teams with strong budgets, like Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings, are also expected to bid aggressively.

Green will be watching the auction closely

Green also said he will be following the IPL 2026 auction along with some of his Australian teammates. “I’m sure I will be [watching], with a few other guys. They’re always good fun to watch. It’s a bit of a lottery where you might go, but also who might be in your team, so it’s always been fun to watch,” he said.

For Green, the auction is not just about the money but also about which team picks him and who his new teammates will be. As one of the most in-demand players this year, he knows he will have options and will be excited to see how the bidding plays out in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

What Green brings to any IPL team

At 26 years old, Cameron Green is a long-term investment for any franchise. He is a tall, powerful batter who can bat anywhere from No. 3 to No. 6 and provide quick runs in the middle or death overs. As a bowler, he can deliver pace and bounce, especially useful on Indian pitches, and is capable of picking up key wickets or holding down an end.

His all-round skills give teams the flexibility to play an extra overseas batter or bowler, which is a huge advantage in building balanced XIs. With Josh Hazlewood and Glenn Maxwell also retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Green could end up reuniting with his Australian teammates if RCB or another franchise goes big for him.
